Our History

In 1971, with the help of James W. Sparks, Sr., the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 479 chartered and founded their very own credit union, IBEW Local 479 Federal Credit Union, and with a deposit of only $5946.00 the credit union was up and running, allowing all members of the local union to join.

Throughout the years the credit union expanded it’s membership eligibilty allowing members of the Coastal Sabine Divison of Southeast Texas, Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #13, Golden Triangle P.C. Club, and local union 2286 to apply.

Finally, in October of 2002, the board decided to apply to become an open charter & in December of that year we officially became what we are known as today, IBEW Community Federal Credit Union, allowing all local electricians & anyone living, working, worshiping, or attending school in Jefferson County to apply for membership.

*IBEW Community Federal Credit Union is NOT affiliated with any other IBEW credit union*
